The search is on We're strapping in Our rocket ship is blasting off You can have another song But this one's for the astronauts The ones who roam around the globe Exploring the periphery Maybe we should send a probe Investigate a mystery I'm just another human man I wonder what becomes of us Floating through the universe Suspended on a speck of dust And most of us are wondering Like what are we supposed to do But if you listen hard enough A little voice is telling you To hold on Hold on Maybe we'll reach that place someday Hold on Hold on Maybe we'll reach that place someday And all these politician types Pretending that they give a shit Would ruin every planet if we let them get away with it We need to find another world But must protect the one we're on Planet Earth is paradise Let's fight for it before it's gone We're poisoning the atmosphere And dredging up the ocean floor Proud of all the work you've done Then what'd you cut the funding for We're taking our intelligence And pointing it towards the light If you don't see a problem here I wonder how you sleep at night Now hold on Hold on Maybe we'll reach that place some day Hold on Hold on Maybe we'll reach that place some day Maybe we'll reach that place some day

Oh yeah you know We’ll sail the machines We'll make the machines 3-2-1 It looks like we’ve had our fun We’re going to have to run To some other star Unless we’d like to perish where we are Unless we’d like to perish where we are If this new Astronomy textbook’s true We’re going to have to do Impossible things Like sail precise machines through Saturn’s rings Like sail precise machines through Saturn’s rings [♫ cosmic space music ♫] Rocket! Cassini! Let’s go! Rocket! Cassini! Let’s go!

Why We'll never know An infinite void And where does it go As we wait Until the sun Carries us off At the speed of a gun And I'm sure it happens all the time To better men than I Life is just a river that I'm wandering along It happens everday A billion miles away And I'm getting pretty tired of all the fighting going on We Will never say It's only our life We're running away And that all of life might end Imagining us Imaging them And I'm sure it happens all the time To better men than I Life is just a ripple that I'm wandering along It happens everyday A billion miles away And I'm getting pretty tired of all the fighting going on And I'm getting pretty tired of all the fighting going on And I'm getting pretty tired of all the fighting going on [♫ cosmic space music ♫] Dance dance why don't you dance Dance dance why don't you dance Dance dance why don't you dance Dance dance why don't you dance Going on going on going on going on Carried away by love Going on going on going on going on Carried away by love And I'm getting pretty And I'm getting pretty And I'm getting pretty tired of all the fighting going on Carried away by love

about

A musical tribute to NASA's Cassini mission to Saturn, which came to a spectacular conclusion on September 15th 2017.

The music on this space-themed EP was inspired by the cosmic sounds of tropicalia, 70s funk, lounge and bossanova. I decided early on that there would be no pianos - just clavinets, synths, phasers, drum machines, and maybe the occasional flute or oboe thrown in for good measure.

"If this new / Astronomy textbook's true / We're going to have to do / Impossible things / Like sail precise machines through Saturn's rings"
